Lake Erie Coastal Water Quality Monitor

SafeShores was born out of a simple need — during cross country
training, my teammates and I would cool off in Lake Erie
after runs, but we had no easy way to know if the water was safe.
This app pulls real-time data from EPA, NOAA, and Ohio state
sources so beachgoers can check conditions before getting in.
How to read the map
• Each dot represents a monitored beach.
• Dot color shows the current safety status (Safe / Caution / Danger).
• Tap a dot to view the advisory text, toxin levels, and data source.
Report button
• Use Report to share water conditions you observe
(algae blooms, discoloration, odor, foam).
• Reports appear on the map as Unverified until cross-checked
with official data.
• Reports are informational only and do not trigger emergency services.
